My Latest Book: ‘An Actress in the Dark, and Other Stories’

book cover

I have a new book out on Amazon titled “An Actress in the Dark, and Other Stories.”

Three crime noir tales encompassing the frustration detectives have, the loneliness the job entails and the various people they come across.

An Actress in the Dark follows the story of Nick Powell, a womanizing, lazy private detective who is hired to find out if a rich client’s aunt has been kidnapped or murdered. Or is the bitter and elderly aunt just a miserable old woman?

16 Hours on Christmas surrounds a detective, Larry Lee, who has to work a double shift on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. He comes across an array of cases that make him hang his head in shame. At least he doesn’t have to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” re-runs.

Killing Miracles: A Veronica Rogers Mystery is about a female private detective and her British sidekick partner. They are hired by a woman who thinks her husband is trying to kill her. Is her story legitimate or is she trying to cover up her own devious plans?

You can also check out my other book published late last year: “Climbing Society.”

I’m having a lot of fun lately composing crime noir stories. You should probably expect more of these kinds of stories in the future.

‘When I’m Growing Old’ – a New Play

letters-801755_1920

After two months, I have finally finished a brand new three-act play entitled “When I’m Growing Old.”

It’s a story of Charlotte, a married woman in her late-50s who is sick and tired of living a life of mediocrity and stagnation. Charlotte has been married for most of her life, something she regrets very much. During her 30-plus-year marriage, she has given up her career in journalism, had two children and a secret she and her husband, John, have kept from their two kids, Annette and Max.

I’ll be giving my wife a copy of the play to gain her insights (she is an excellent copyeditor and a keen eye for storytelling). If you know anyone who is interested in producing a play or is holding a contest then please pass on my information (a_moran3@yahoo.ca).

For the next few months, I’ll be working diligently to get this play out there as I feel it’s my best play ever written (I’ve written several before). If not then I’ll just self-publish it as a book on Amazon.

P.S. I’ll be working on a new play this month.

Christmas Promotion 2015: 3 for $50

It seems today it can never be too early for Christmas…

Starbucks released its holiday cups last week, the radio is filled with Christmas ads and our weekly flyers have holiday imagery left, right and centre! Indeed, it can be very, very nauseating. I’d rather watch Lizabeth Scott act than hear another Christmas ad (classic film reference).

Whatever the case, do you need any holiday content for your blog, website or digital newspaper? Do you want to give your readers tips on how to spend as little as possible on Christmas gifts or how to schedule your study sessions during the two-week vacation?

No matter what content you need, you can hire me to complete your writing assignments. From Nov. 16 until Dec. 18, all new clients can receive a special deal of three articles for $50.

Here are the details:

  • Article length must be between 500 and 950 words.
  • You must be a new client who I’ve never worked with before.
  • You receive one free edit, any other edits will be an extra $5.
  • The $50 is in USD.
  • A partial PayPal fee of $1 will be added to each order.

If interested, you can contact me at a_moran3@yahoo.ca.

Happy Festivus!

My magnum opus of 2015? New article delves into contract, temp workers

Here is an excerpt from one of my latest articles published by TimeDoctor:

In the future, will employees become extinct?

All over the world, from the United States to Japan, businesses of all sizes – corporations and small enterprises – are gradually phasing out the employee.

Contractual workers are becoming the norm, while firms are taking on freelancers.

Crowdsourcing the New Reality in Labor Market

Uber is the latest sensation in the marketplace.

The ride-sharing app allows consumers to save money on transportation, while the drivers earn a little bit of extra cash.

Of course, the drivers aren’t employees but rather contractors. The real number of staffers at Uber is 2,000, compared to the estimated 160,000 contractors picking up passengers worldwide.

It isn’t just Uber that is contributing to the dismissal of the conventional employee and embracing the so-called 1099 economy.

Amazon recently made headlines after it was reported that the online retail juggernaut is considering incorporating an Uber-like delivery service into its business model.

The company would crowdsource drivers to drop off packages at customers’ residences or businesses. Details of the project – pay, fees, launch date – remain unknown

Other popular and successful crowdsourced services include Deliv, Instacart, GrubHub and Google Express. Even Wal-Mart mulled over the idea of launching a crowdsourced delivery service in 2013, but the retail giant quickly put the concept on hold.

Crowdsourcing isn’t the only factor to consider when discussing the demise of the employee.
